The GE LM2500 is a Reliable Source for Power
The GE LM2500 from General Electric is an industrial and marine gas turbine made by GE Aviation and is derived from the GE CF6 aircraft engine.
It power thrust is extremely efficient. The current version of the GE LM2500 is capable of delivering 33,600 shaft horsepower along with a 37 percent thermal efficiency at ISO conditions. It is commonly found in marine vehicles such as U.S. Navy warships, hovercrafts, cruise ships, hydrofoils and ferries that run fast. Another aspect about these marine and industrial gas turbine machines is that they are easy to install and maintain. They have a simple, modular design with marine corrosion-resistant materials and are constructed with the smallest size, weight and space requirements for every horsepower produced. Since the GE LM2500 is housed in a high-shock resistant, thermal acoustic enclosure, the noise is reduced in the engine room and sensors can also detect and icing or fire breakouts. In addition, fire extinguisher equipment is also housed in the enclosure. Its size lends itself to maximizing shipboard maintainability and cutting down on parts replacement, which will save any entity money on repair costs.
Some other specifications concerning the GE LM2500 include a heat rate of 6,860 shp-hr (shaft horsepower per hour), an exhaust gas temperature of 1,051°F, an exhaust gas flow of 155 pounds per second, a power turbine speed of 3,600 RPMs, weigh about 10,300 pounds, are 6.52 meters in length, and are about 2.04 meters in height.
