The High Performance GE LM6000 is Reliable and Flexible
Known for its high performance, reliability and flexibility, the GE LM6000 from General Electric offers supreme power for marine propulsion, Industrial Gas Turbine power generation, and marine power generation. The GE LM6000 has a dual motor, direct drive gas turbine that draws from the CF6-80C2, high-bypass, turbofan aircraft engine. It also offers a 25 percent simple-cycle power increase as well as an 18 percent boost in exhaust energy. Of all of GE Turbines, it is most reliable for delivering power with low emissions.
The GE LM6000 has 54,610 shaft horsepower on both ends of the low-pressure rotor system. This rotates at a speed of 3,600 rpm. The need for a conventional power turbine is eliminated with the GE LM6000's twin spool design and the low pressure turbine operating at 60 Hz. It can also be utilized for various utility power generation and industrial applications because of its high efficiency and installation flexibility.
There are modifications on the GE LM6000 that make it perfect for use in marine and industrial applications. This includes an expanded turbine section that converts thrust into shaft power, support and struts to mount it on a steel or concrete deck, and reworked controls packages for enhanced power generation. The GE LM6000 is used in power plants, fast ferries and high speed cargo ships. It can also be found in hospitals, airports, pulp and paper plants, cement plants, mining plants, gas pipelines, refineries, gas production, and cruise ships.
The GE LM6000 comes with many features and benefits. For instance, it has a cycling capability that does not impact maintenance intervals and has a zero to 100 percent load within 10 minutes. It also has dry low emissions (DLE) that provide 15 ppm NOx (water injection) on natural gas and variable speeds for mechanical drives. It's lightweight, compact and modular design makes it attractive and economical for power plants and fast-moving ships. GE offers the GE LM6000 in several option packages such as SPRINT (or SPRay INTercooling), Spray Mist Evaporative Cooling (SMEC), and NOx injection, which reduces emissions. The SPRINT and SMEC options will help increase power and efficiency of the turbine.
